A request for an online certificate (available for consultation for six months) can be performed with or without authentication. Any individual can request a birth certificate. Paper certificates (including multilingual certificates) can be requested at any Civil Registry Office (in Portuguese) or Citizen Shop in Portugal or at any Portuguese Consulate (in Portuguese) overseas.
Portuguese death certificates are available in digital and paper format. Anybody can request a death certificate and no documentation is required. Digital certificates can be consulted for six months from issue.
Permanent Company Registration Certificates (certidão permanente) include public information about Portuguese companies.in the Commercial Register and can be obtained and verified online. There are 3 types of certificate available:
Permanent Certificate of Registration (certidão permanente) - includes all filing and pending filing requests of the company. It is available in Portuguese and English.
Permanent Certificate of Registration and Supporting Documents (certidão permanente de registo e documentos) - additionally includes access to all documents filed by the company (except annual accounts).
Permanent Certificate of the Latest Memorandum/Updated Articles of Association (certidão permanente do pacto social / estatutos atualizados) - gives access to the latest Memorandum and Articles of Association registered by the company.

Portuguese Criminal Record Certificates (Registo Criminal) can be requested online (Portuguese nationals only with Digital Mobile Key or Citizen Card). Foreign nationals must apply in person or through an authorized representative at a Court or Criminal Identification Service (in Portuguese) (Balcões dos serviços de identificação criminal).
Applications may also be submitted by mail (applicants residing outside Portugal only) and through a Portuguese Consulate (in Portuguese) overseas. The Criminal Record Certificate is valid for 3 months from the date of issue.
