Legalize Nigerian Documents

Nigerian documents can be certified for cross-border use through legalization

Consular Legalization

Legalization is a procedure used when a Nigerian document needs to be certified for official use abroad. Each document requires a double certification: first by the authorities of Nigeria and secondly by the authorities of the country where the documents will be used (the receiving country). This second certification, which is generally provided by the embassy or consulate representing the receiving country in Nigeria, confirms the first certification and so validates the document for official use in the receiving country.

Germany
Documents required for Germany
The legalization of Nigerian public documents and certificates was ceased in May 2000 due to the lack of security features. It was replaced by a verification process in which Nigerian public documents are verified upon request by a German court or authority. The verification process can only be initiated on request of a German authority, not by a private person.

Certified Translation

Where Nigerian documents are to be used abroad and where the receiving country has a different official language, certified translation may also be required. Isarey takes care of any certified translations required as part of the document attestation process, ensuring that translations are carried out and certified in accordance with local regulations.

Note that a certified translation on its own only provides assurance that the translation itself is accurate and true; it does not confirm the authenticity of the original document. The original document must be legalized for a certified translation to carry equivalent legal weight.
